ROR1 is an enzyme that in humans is encoded which belongs to the receptor tyrosine kinase-like orphan receptor (ROR) family. RORs are a family of tyrosine kinase receptors that are important in regulating skeletal and neuronal development, cell migration and cell polarity. ROR1 is a glycosylated type I membrane protein. ROR1 modulates neurite growth in the central nervous system. It is a pseudokinase that lacks catalytic activity and may interact with the non-canonical Wnt signalling pathway. ROR1 gene is highly expressed during early embryonic development but expressed at very low levels in adult tissues. Increased expression of this gene is associated with B-cell chronic lymphocytic leukaemia. ROR1 could interact with casein kinase 1 epsilon (CK1ε) to activate phosphoinositide 3-kinase-mediated AKT phosphorylation and cAMP-response-element-binding protein (CREB), which was associated with enhanced tumor-cell growth.
