Beschreibung von IL-8 / CXCL8 Protein

Interleukin-8 (IL8), also known as CXCL8, is a member of the CXC chemokine family of small (8–10 kDa) proteins, a subfamily of chemokines within the cytokine superfamily. This chemokine is secreted by a variety of cell types including monocyte/macrophages, T cells, neutrophils, fibroblasts, endothelial cells, and various tumor cell lines in response to inflammatory stimuli (IL-1, TNF, LPS, etc). IL8 has the N-terminal tripeptide Glu-Leu-Arg (ELR) motif, which is known to mediate IL8 receptor binding and subsequent signal transduction, such as the TRAF6- NF-κB pathway, and involved in inflammatory and allergic responses. Furthermore, it has been shown that IL8 also plays a vital role in angiogenesis which is important for tumorigenesis, progression and metastasis, and accordingly the expression levels of IL8 correlate with disease progression in several human carcinomas. Multiple N-terminal processed forms for this protein are available, and this purified IL8 (6-77 amino acids) is the most prominent one.
