Molecular Mass The secreted recombinant pig (Sus scrofa) transferrin/Fc is a disulfide-linked homodimeric protein. The reduced monomer comprises 935 amino acids and has a predicted molecular mass of 103 kDa. It migrates as an approximately 100-110 kDa band in SDS-PAGE under reducing conditions.
Formulation Lyophilized from 0.2μm filtered solution of PBS, pH7.4.

Beschreibung von Transferrin / TF Protein

The melanotransferrin (MTf) molecule, also called CD228 or p97, has been widely described as a melanoma specific molecule. MTf is found at high levels in melanoma cells and previous studies have shown that MTf can bind Fe. MTf has a high level of sequence homology to transferrin (Tf) and lactoferrin, but is unusual because it predominantly occurs as a membrane bound, glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI) anchored molecule, but can also occur as a soluble form. The iron-binding properties of melanotransferrin, the tumour-associated antigen p97, have been investigated by many aspects and the results show that, in contrast to other transferrins, melanotransferrin binds only one Fe3+ ion per molecule. The binding properties of its N-terminal site are similar to other transferrins, but its C-terminal site does not bind iron at all. The differences can be related to specific amino acid changes in the C-terminal site. In clinical, The protein melanotransferrin (MTf) is associated with the brain lesions of Alzheimer's disease (AD) and is a potential marker of the disorder. Serum MTf is a candidate marker of AD, even in the early stage when clinical diagnosis is most uncertain.
