ILT6 is a member of the ILT family. ILT family proteins are expressed predominantly on myeloid lineage cells, and some members have been shown to bind classical (HLA-A and -B) and non-classical (HLA-G1, -E and -F) MHC class I molecules. Several nomenclatures exist, giving each member a different ILT, LIR, LILR, CD85 or other designation. ILT6 contains 4 Ig-like C2-type (immunoglobulin-like) domains and may act as soluble receptor for class I MHC antigens. It can be detected n B-cells, and at lower levels in natural killer (NK) cells. Unlike many of its family, ILT6 lacks a transmembrane domain. If secreted, the ILT6 might impair interactions of membrane-bound LILRs with their HLA ligands, thus modulating immune reactions and influencing susceptibility to disease.
