KIAA0101, also known as p15(PAF), is a proliferating cell nuclear antigen–associated factor and involved in cell proliferation. KIAA0101 was initially identified as a PCNA(proliferating cell nuclear antigen)-associated factor. It correlates with enhanced metastatic potential and is a significant prognostic factor of HCC(prognosis of hepatocellular carcinoma). Its expression was down-regulated in HCC. KIAA0101 is highly expressed in a number of tumors, specifically in esophageal tumors, anaplastic thyroid carcinomas, pancreatic cancer and non-small-cell lung cancer lines. KIAA0101 was also reported to be down-regulated in colon cancer cells and human hepatocellular carcinoma. Overexpression of KIAA0101 predicts high stage, early tumor recurrence, and poor prognosis of hepatocellular carcinoma. KIAA0101 may contribute to growth advantage and resistance to hypoxic insult. It also may be involved in protection of cells from UV-induced cell death.
